Yesterday I had the great pleasure of filming Natasha and Harry’s Signet Library wedding. This lovely couple were married at beautiful St Giles’ Cathedral. Afterwards, they held their wedding reception nearby at Signet Library, in Edinburgh city centre.
What an amazing day for a wedding! Getting married in Edinburgh city centre. Right at the busiest location for festival goers. Right at the height of the festival ensures massive crowds of onlookers and lots of well-wishers. I’ve never seen so many people at or near a wedding! Which made the day feel that extra bit special. And slightly CRAZY!
Due to the logistics of shooting an Edinburgh wedding video during the festival (and car parking nearby wasn’t an option!), my ever helpful wife Claire was enlisted to assist during the filming of the ceremony. Claire, your camera baby-sitting and load lugging skills were greatly appreciated 🙂 xxx
St Giles’ Cathedral is a beautiful wedding venue. It’s huge, beautifully lit, ornate, imposing, exquisite and just downright cool! I was filming the wedding with two cameras. One camera covering just to the side at the front of the altar. The second camera filming from the back of the aisle. With a full choir and the cathedral closed to the public during the proceedings, the atmosphere was spine tingling. I’ve captured some gorgeous video footage. Natasha and Harry looked so relaxed and are obviously made for each other. It would have been impossible to shoot anything other than stunning footage!
After the ceremony and confetti shower on the front steps of the cathedral, everyone headed over to the Signet Library for the champagne reception. With exclusive use of this venue, the guests had plenty of room in the two main rooms of this amazing building. The main hall upstairs, in particular, looked stunning.
During the champagne reception we headed to Queen Street Gardens to spend 30 minutes taking shots of the newly-weds. Queen Street Gardens offers something a bit different to the city centre location of the Royal Mile. With the weather staying warm and sunny, we made the most of the short time allocated. I got some exquisite video of Natasha and Harry. Well worth the dash through busy traffic and hordes of festival goers!
A wee while later, back at The Signet Library, there was time for a few group photos before the newly-weds made their grand entrance to the wedding breakfast and speeches.
While everyone enjoyed an amazing wedding breakfast supplied by Heritage Portfolio, I jumped in a taxi to go home and collect my car and my Steadicam camera stabiliser. The dance floor at The Signet Library is massive and perfectly suited to filming with the Steadicam system. I’m glad I did this. The preview of the video looks brilliant! I filmed some very cinematic shots of Natasha and Harry dancing as I circled them around the edge of the dance floor. These super-steady ‘flying-through-the air’ shots of the first dances look great.
The end of the day’s filming was really good fun as the guests were treated to the super-cool ‘Soul Kings’. These guys know how to get a crowd going with their covers of classic Motown and disco hits. A great way to end a wonderful day!
Congratulations Natasha and Harry. It was a long and hot but perfect wedding day!
Shared here is a few wedding photos straight from the video footage. Enjoy!
