It was an honour to be invited to film Jo and Carl’s beautiful Melville Castle wedding.
The day actually began in Edinburgh city centre. Jo and Carl were married at the impressive St Mary’s Cathedral. The main parts of the day were filmed using video cameras. My cameras film in vivid and detailed high definition quality. The wedding reception was held at exquisite Melville Castle.
Melville Castle is an impressive wedding and reception venue. It was designed in 1786-91 by James Playfair. Amazingly, by the 1980s the building lay derelict. After restoration it was turned into a luxury hotel and conference venue. The castle is located within a beautiful woodland estate and lies about 6 miles south of Edinburgh. The nearest town is Dalkeith, Midlothian. It’s always really nice when accessing this kind of venue. You drive along the road for a couple of minutes then the castle comes into view. Always a very impressive site.
The champagne reception was held on the front lawn. The castle and grounds are a beautiful location for a wedding. We were fortunate with the weather as it stayed sunny all day.
The wedding breakfast and evening reception was hosted in a large marquee, which the newly-weds entered to rapturous applause. This is always a special part of a wedding day. A highlight of the wedding video was filming Jo and Carl’s first dances. The video below is fifteen minutes long. It’s filmed with two high definition cameras, one camera filming the band, the other filming the dancing. I used a Steadicam rig to film the dances. This allows me to walk around the dance floor keeping the camera steady. The wedding video looks so much better using this professional equipment!
Jo and Carl were a really lovely couple to work for. Relaxed, happy and easy going. A pleasure to film.
