Dundas Castle wedding venue, steeped in medieval history, offers wedding couples a place that won’t cease to amaze and delight. Located just 8 miles from the Scottish Capital at South Queensferry, Edinburgh, EH30 9SP, Dundas Castle is sublimely peaceful sat amongst over four hundred acres of fine, mature parkland.
I’ve photographed and filmed many Dundas Castle weddings over the years, always coming away thinking just how special and unique the place is.
As you enter the grounds and begin your journey down the long, impressive driveway, you will know that an incredible venue awaits. You spy the magnificent castle, with its weathered stone and grand stepped entrance, and you will feel like you are stepping back in time and have become a member of the nobility.
With its exclusive-use policy, your wish is their command. Dundas Castle doesn’t just offer you Wedding Coordinators, but ‘Fairy Godmothers’ ready to transform your event into a magnificent showcase of style, romance and beauty!
Dundas Castle offers a peaceful, yet grand, 5-star estate that blends requests for intimacy and splendour with perfect aplomb. You are guaranteed a warm, historical feel matched only with contemporary luxury.
Options abound when it comes to weddings at Dundas Castle, depending on the size of your wedding guest list and the feel you are seeking.
The Auld Keep allows guests to feel truly at one with the historical heart of this venue. The staircase within is reminiscent of fairy tales leading you to the Great Hall. The Stag Chamber within the Auld Keep itself can accommodate 24 for a candlelit ceremony, complete with authentic armour. Continue the winding staircase and you emerge on the roof of the Auld Keep, giving you a staggering vista and backdrop for the most impressive wedding photographs.
The Great Hall, reached from The Auld Keep, offers the largest interior wedding ceremony room. It can seat 100 for a ceremony, or 152 with a video link. This impressive historical room is dramatic, with its vaulted ceiling and original brickwork. The Great Hall is, without a doubt, a truly romantic wedding location. At night, the Great Hall can be transformed into a dance area for under 75 guests, giving you all the options to unwind and have fun in an impressive setting.
The Staircase and Hallway are the perfect settings for post ceremony drinks and canapés. Newly-weds make their way down the grand staircase, led by a Pipe Major and the thrilling skirl of bagpipes. What an exciting way to make your grand entrance in front of family and guests! The hallway is a great place to cut your wedding cake. Be sure to make the most of this photo opportunity by cutting your cake with Dundas’ antique sword!
The Croquet Room offers medium-sized wedding parties the perfect sized venue for approximately 80 guests, with a classic and elegant feel. Situated in the main house, the Croquet Room allows you to marry under an impressive chandelier, offset with tapestries in this beautiful Georgian Room. Feeling cosy with the open fire, yet with floor-to-ceiling windows allowing a bathing of natural light, this room is a photographer’s dream. Your ceremony photos will look truly stunning when taken in the Croquet Room.
The Pavilion allows guests of Dundas Castle to blend the outdoors with the interior of the venue, through a contemporary striking marquee. The Pavilion is another unique and dramatic ceremony option seating approximately 180. At night, romance and enchantment abound as the Pavilion marquee roof is lit up with fairy lights and the sides twinkle with LED lighting that can be selected to choose your theme. The atmosphere is fantastic.
Photos in the grounds of Dundas Castle are essential, weather-permitting. From manicured lawns to mature trees, loch views to intricate stone and iron work, the backdrops are endless. Inclement weather usually means indoor photography. Dundas Castle’s Drawing Room and Library are the perfect settings for newly-wed and family photos.
The Boathouse by the loch is a romantic getaway within the estate of the castle itself. This spectacular stand-alone accommodation gives newly-weds peace in a naturally stunning environment. Cosy, with beautiful views, it makes the perfect place for your first night as a married couple.
The Snooker Room offers a place to chat, drink and be merry before or during the ceremony. The wood-panelling and full-sized snooker table start the day off on the right foot: A chance to calm nerves and relax before a busy day.
The beauty of a Dundas Castle wedding and its exclusivity means you can choose from a vast range of options to enjoy on the estate. From a gentle game of croquet, through to the high-octane fun of off-roading, there’ll be something to make your wedding truly unique. The Wedding Coordinators are keen to ensure that you get the very best out of the castle, making your wedding both memorable and unique.
You and your guests will be in awe of the culinary delights on offer. The cuisine is truly 5-star dining with inspiration taken from Scottish history as well as the heritage and opulence of the castle.
Continuing with your exclusive use of the castle, you can make use of the luxury overnight accommodation. There are 17 rooms (as well as the Boathouse) that have been individually designed and styled with modern, yet classic, luxury in mind. Spoil your guests with White Company linens, Penhaligon toiletries and even complimentary whisky. Situated within the main house as well as the Courtyard Cottage, there is a range of double and twin rooms. Being light and airy, they offer a perfect place to get ready and enjoy some reportage shots if you wish.
