I recently had the pleasure of filming another Dean Park Hotel wedding. This time for the wedding of Lusia and Gavin. Gavin and Lusia were married with a full Catholic wedding ceremony at St Ninian’s Presbytery, Cardenden, Fife. They held their wedding reception held nearby at Dean Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy, Fife.
After their wedding ceremony, the newly-weds had a brief photo shoot at nearby Balgonie Castle. I filmed the champagne reception at the Dean Park Hotel. After the wedding breakfast, it was dark outside and the newly-weds had a little surprise for everyone. They had purchased one hundred Chinese lanterns. These were to be lit, one by each of the guests, and released into the night sky. With a little help from a member of the hotel staff and a portable gas burner, the lanterns were dispatched in no time at all.
The release of the Chinese lanterns was a real highlight of the evening. All the guests eagerly taking turns to release their lantern. The portable gas blow torch certainly helped to ensure a steady release of the lanterns. The night sky was pitch black and cloud free. This was great, as it meant you could see a string of lanterns rising up into the sky. The lanterns looked like a string of pearls twinkling away into the distance!
It was a spectacular sight to see one hundred lanterns released one after the other. I’ve not seen this at any other weddings but I highly recommend this as a fun and entertaining alternative to a fireworks display!
This is a chapter from the wedding video showing the release of one hundred Chinese lanterns during the evening reception of Gavin and Lusia’s wedding day. Enjoy!
